SportsBet is an Australian sportsbetting site that was established in 1993, which is based out of Melbourne. The book is owned by Paddy Power Betfair, which is known around the world for their series of online casinos and books. The site is very reputable and remains one of the licensed options in Australia, as recent law changes have driven out a lot of offshore companies.

Sportsbetting Options

There are a good number of sportsbetting options in place at SportsBet, with more than twenty different sports to choose from. Punters will find Aussie football, Australian football, baseball, hockey, rugby, cricket, darts, golf, and more all available at the ready. The book also includes live events, which lets you get in a wager during a specific event.

Mobile Support

Those looking to get in on the action can do so through their desktop or mobile device. The platform used by SportsBet is well-developed, and you’ll have no problem betting through your desktop or mobile device.

Responsible Gaming

Sportsbet

There is a responsible gaming section on the SportsBet website, which takes you to a dedicated site, which is one of the most extensive options we’e come across. Players will find a variety of controls such as timeouts, self-assessment tools, deposit limits, self-exclusion, and more. The section is fantastic, and one of the better resources you can use.

Security

SportsBet uses 128-bit SSL encryption technology to protect players. This is a good thing, as it protects your information as it’s sent between your computer and the casino’s servers. This is essential, and we only recommend betting at sites that use the encryption from the top level on down.

Terms and Conditions

Looking through the terms and conditions, I couldn’t find anything that was predatory toward players on the website.

Banking Options

The banking system is diverse and well rounded. Punters will be able to deposit and withdraw funds using Skrill, PayPal, Poli, Moneybookers, Visa, and Mastercard. The speed of payout differs on the method, with eWallets being the fastest method.

Unlike a lot of other betting sites, SportsBet doesn’t offer additional games to their customers. This is due to the site being licensed in Australia, where online casino games are severely restricted.

Who are Sportsbet?

Sportsbet has had a long and colourful history in the Australian betting industry.

Formed in 1993, it was nearly bankrupted out of business in the early noughties, but has since risen like the proverbial phoenix.

In 2009, Irish giants Paddy Power purchased a majority shareholder stake in the company, and eventually bought it outright a few years later.

As we wrote about last year, Paddy Power and Betfair merged to become the Flutter Group, which means Sportsbet falls under that operation, as does Beteasy.

About Sportsbet

Book

Sportsbet’s Australian operations are licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Government.

Sportsbet’s HQ is based in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, VIC. It is now one of the largest betting and wagering operations in the country.

Sponsorship

Sportsbet is actively involved in sponsorship activity throughout Australia.

It is the official wagering partner of the NRL in rugby league, its contract extended through to the end of 2020.

It is also the official partner of the NBL (National Basketball League) in Australia.

As part of its connection to basketball, it also held the sponsorship rights for the Tri Nations basketball series recently held in Australia just prior to the FIBA World Basketball Champs.

The local series included Australia, Canada and the USA.

Sportsbet also sponsors horse races in regional Victoria such as the Ballarat Cup and the Pakenham Cup among others.

Sign Up Process

No problems here, all very straight forward, set it up within minutes.

Once you are registered and signed in, you can go to Menu >> Settings and refine your details even more, such as notifications etc.

When you put funds into your account, you’ll be asked to verify your details using the tools that Sportsbet uses to verify with third parties.

As per every other betting agency, you won’t get access to withdrawing funds until verification is successfully completed.

Highlights

There are many highlights that Sportsbet have to offer.

Let’s run through some of these.

  • Multi-Builder – this is a big selling point of Sportsbet’s offering I feel. You can build a list of different events and games into a Multi-Builder collection, based on events that are going on around the world currently. Some events are occurring on the day of the bet, some games will occur on the weekend, but nevertheless, your multi will last right through to the end of the event on the calendar. It looks like a bunch of fun, plus there user interface seems to be very easy.
  • Black Book – yes, every betting agrncy website should have one, and Sportsbet duly delivers. Click on a runner in any race, the Black Book option is there to select.
  • Futures – this is an All-In market facility, so if you put money down on a race where your horse/bet is withdrawn into the future, your money goes down the gurgler. Most of us use it more as an advance market indicator, rather than splashing cold hard cash into an all-in market.
  • Sportsbet Mastercard – any betting agency that supplies a debit card gets my vote. A definite highlight.

Website

The Sportsbet website is fully responsive, and quite tidy in its layout.

Obviously on a desktop, you get more band for the buck in terms of visual real estate, but nonetheless, but major elements remain the same, including the left corner hamburger menu for both desktop and mobile, a profile of all the latest races and betting markets.

If you’re an old timer to betting agency websites, then this is one of the better ones.

Mobile App

From the get-go, the Sportsbet mobile app is made available to you, if you are viewing the website from a mobile phone, and if you don’t have it already installed.

Great, you don’t need to go looking for it, even though it is available on the menu.

I use Android, the app download from the menu.

Sportsbet Black Book 2020

Click on the download link to install the APK file (around 25mb), install it once landed, and you are good to go!

I didn’t see an option to download the iOS version from the menu, but I’ve been told the APK can be downloaded from the Apple/iTunes Play Store.

Funding Types/Deposit Methods

Minimum deposit is $5.00
Minimum bet: 0.01c, $50 by phone.

Withdrawal Options

Withdrawals are made via bank transfer, PayPal and Skrill. Remember there is also the Mastercard option (see below), which means shifting funds over to the card balance so you can use it.

VISA/Mastercard Option

Yes, this facility is available through Sportsbet. It is called the Sportsbet Mastercard, details of which can be found on your Account page, once you are signed up.

You will have access to your Sportsbet account balance, and be able to use the funds on everyday transactions, like any normal Mastercard. Excellent!

Market/Activity Types

No second guessing with these guys.

All the big name sports are covered, plus the usual three-pronged attack for thoroughbred, harness and greyhounds.

Click on: Menu >> Racing, to see all the familiar action from Australia and around the globe. Other jurisdictions are covered including Hong Kong, which is a pleasant surprise.

Click on: Menu >> Sports, to see all the major sport action from the world, with a focus on all the football leagues, cricket, basketball, tennis, golf and much much more. It’s very comprehensive.

Promotions

On the Sportsbet website, this is called ‘Specials’, and is viewable from the main menu.

These are refreshed regularly, depending on what race meeting is targeted, or what special event is being highlighted, like the Big Bash Cricket or Australian Open for instance.

The specials are very easy to interpret, click on any of the links to take you right into the heart of the action.

Betting Types/Features/Odds

Sportbet have a very comprehensive marketplace for betting on different sports.

Sportsbet

For racing, on each race card you will see the various betting options available, and believe me there are a few.

Win, Place
Same race multi
Quinella
Exacta
Trifecta
First Four
Quaddie (if applicable)
Early Quaddie (if applicable)
Daily Double
Treble
Super 6
Running Double

For other sports, different market options are available for each sport.

Click on a game or event, to see what is available.

Just to point out; the Same Race Multi is a relatively new offering, coming into action at the start of Spring 2019.

I don’t think I’ve seen this with other betting agencies.

Other Betting Features

KRUZEY makes a list of all the features we see across most/all online betting agency platforms, and check to see if the particular agency being reviewed here has them.

Live Racing
Yes this is available on the Sportsbet platform. It is called Bet Live, and features live racing across Victorian and South Australian race meetings. One assumes they have a tie in to racing.com for this feature. Very good.

Featured Bets
Refer to ‘Bets’ section underneath.

Fluctuations
Yes this is available on the Sportsbet platform, visible on the race card. Click on Flucs to switch it on/off. The info sits just underneath the main details for each runner.

Bet Tracker
This function is not available.

Speed Map
Yes this is available on the Sportsbet platform, visible on the race card. Though the visual design isn’t very intuitive. Sure, there are speed maps for each runner, but the map is displayed against each runner, rather than in one single cohesive graphic. This means if you have a field of 12 or more runners, you have to keep scrolling up and down the screen to compare the speed map of all the runners, which (as said above) is not very intuitive. You can actually switch the map on/off, so it can be displayed with other functions, like tips, flucs, key stats.

Form Guide
This is known as Key Stats on Sportsbet and is visible on the race card. Click it to switch it on/off, details such as career starts, wins and places, form on the track/course, track conditions, distance and matching jockey are all contained here. Fairly spartan look, but the real goodness lies in the Extended Form Guide, see below.

Extended Form Guide
This is where the real information lies. Click on any runner and you’ll see extensive and comprehensive data on the selected runner. Everything you need to know is here. You also have the ability to view any runner in Long Form Mode and also view Sectional data, should you wish to analyse it. Well done Sportsbet.

Tips
Yes this is available on the Sportsbet platform, visible on the race card. The info provided is pretty basic.

Responsible Gambling

All Australian betting agencies carry the responsible gambling message. Most do it very well, it must be said. Sportsbet go into detail on this page: , then click on the hamburger menu in the top left corner.

Customer and Online Help

From the main menu, go to Help. There is extensive information on any aspect of the Sportsbet operation. Use the horizontal navigation bar to scroll across the sections, which provides a question and answer layout for the user (self help format).

Contact details (phone, feedback, chat) are available further down any of the help screens.

If this is not enough, there is also a Live Chat session available, from the main menu: Live Chat.

I was pleasantly surprised how detailed and comprehensive this longstanding betting agency is, considering how long they’ve been in the market. They have some big money behind them, and it shows.

Thre’s not much to complain about really, nearly all of the bases are covered, but the big plusses are the extensive markets it has, the layout, and of course the Mastercard facility.

Just what happens to the business in 2020 as a result of the Flutter merger remains to be seen. Everything could be tipped on its head!

In the meantime, put this one toward the top of your list should you be looking to sign up with a new betting agency.
